Here in central Wi. oak wilt is rampant in this light sandy soil >:( I saw a lot of oak wilt killed logs.

Do not transport logs or lumber of oak wilt killed trees into a area that does not have it yet. The dead trees develope a fungal mat under the bark and the fungas can be transmitted to live trees by insects or woodpeckers.

You will have some insect damage, worm holes, in the sapwood even in trees that just died as the bugs seem to sense when the tree is dying and lay there eggs under the bark before you know for sure the tree is infected. If the tree has been dead for a year or more the worm holes may go several inches into the wood.

The wood saws fine and the quality does not seem to be affected .

The dnr has a booklet on oak wilt if your'e interested.
