Hurricane Harvey is destined to cause much misery in Texas within the next couple of days and then much rain/water and possible tornados across Louisiana, Mississippi, etc. next week.
Texas Ranger is probably in full "battle gear" mode with storm prep and/or possible evacuation.
The great majority of the countries oil refineries as well as offshore production, etc. will be affected by this massive storm, so we may expect to see fuel shortages as well as price spikes.
Yup, putting everything in the office, that I can, on higher ground. House should not be affected, but who knows what rains we will get. Logging will come to an end down here for weeks. Mill closures should not close, but again, who knows. Our area will probably only see a rain event, although a heavy one, we should fair well enough, generator fuel, freezer full, swamp water on hand.
Pray for the coastal areas, mandatory evacuation for the entire Texas coast.

That must be what has been sucking nice cool, dry air down from the north. It's been a relief but it will probably have a high price tag.

I have been concerned about fishfighter (Paul) for several days. He has not logged on since the 18th nor posted since the 12th. I called the two phone numbers that I have this morning and left a message on each. I am hoping that he will soon call me back.
That's troubling, Magicman. He pushes himself in some pretty extreme conditions, too. Always makes me nervous when there's a gap in his posts for his cabin build and "Whatcha Sawin'". Maybe family convinced him to take a cool, dry vacation.
I just heard from Paul and he is OK. He has had a death in his immediate family (Son) that has required and occupied his time but he appreciates us being concerned about him. PatD and I met this young son (37) when we visited with fishfighter earlier this year.
My prayer is for Paul and his family as they deal with this loss.

It is impossible to imagine that much rainfall with nowhere to go. We are only forecast to get about 8" toward the middle of next week.
We've gotten about 6 inches in the last 2 days and everything is flooded. Every ditch is full and our creek is running like a race horse. I had to go move 4 pigs to another pen yesterday as the one they were had no dry ground. I guess I'd better go check on them and make sure they aren't swimming. Can't even imagine what's happening in TX.
I've been in Houston when they got 2 or 3 inches in a couple hours. It flooded a lot of roads and caused havoc. It was just a hard afternoon shower. Hard to even contemplate what this amount of rain can do.
We got 4" overnight last week in a thunder storm. The ponding on the roads made them impassable for a few hours, and we're in a rural area. We've had 26" year to date. Twenty inches from one storm would be a nightmare in any location. :o
We're located just north of Nixon, TX.......it's been raining all day and just guessing at what I'm looking at in the rain gauge it looks like we've gotten 9 or 10 inches so far....and it's still raining. The wind has been fierce and it's still blowing as well. I'm kind of amazed any of our trees are still standing. But the most important thing of course is my lt40 is high and dry in the barn!

My former helper moved to Texas last year, just outside of Houston.
Called him this morning and they ore OK where they located but not so in the city
Only the outer band of rain has reached us but fishfighter is getting a soaking. This misery will continue for the rest of the week for the fortunate and for weeks, months, and years for the less fortunate.
17 inches of rain in Livingston, creek is falling some, so flood may not happen to the Staples Empire! 8)

21 inches of rain at Hacienda de la Staples as of this morning, and an all day rain event for today. Supposed to be over Louisiana tomorrow. I think tomorrow may never come.

Looks like the predictions of Harvey sliding eastward into La and Ms were accurate. It's already happening. South end of both states already getting pounded. I'm about 200 miles from the coast and I'm still dry, but it's a'comin.. Next couple of days gonna be wet. I expect to loose some more timber, the ground is already saturated.
I just heard on the news that one part of Houston has officially recorded 49.2 inches of rain. FOUR FEET OF RAIN! :o
It boggles the mind.

Pineywoods, you and Magic Man may be seeing this thing first hand, hopefully greatly reduced. We should be clear of it by tomorrow morning with a little drizzle left over. It keeps moving east and the boys in Georgia will be getting their saw dust wet.

The storm's predicted/forecast path is directly over pineywoods which will be about 100 miles West of me. That puts me on the "wet" side but of course how much rain it will actually generate is ???
It's sad to watch it on the news.
Thankfully the storm seems to be loosing moisture as well as momentum/wind as it moves away from the Gulf. We should be OK.

The storm's eye has crossed into Mississippi, but thankfully about 150 miles North of us and we have gotten very little wind or rain. Mostly just an on and off "get you wet" drizzle. The threat of tornados in it's path will continue as the storm continues to move NE.
We ended up with a little over 25 inches of rain over 5 days. Sun today.

Edge came into Memphis about 11:30 this morning. Spawned eight or nine tornado warnings for the are 3:10 p.m. looks like the eye is about on top of Memphis. Keep loosing Direct TV because of the heavy down pores. Yep prayers for all along the coast and Houston. Have two cousins Northwest area of Houston. They are okay and dry.
Harvey passed right over me around mid-nite. Lots of water, not much wind. So far, I have found no damage other than lots of water ran through my saw shed.

Got back home last night from helping the Cajun Navy. At one point we "couldn't get there from here" as the old saying goes. Almost every road from Houston to the South, East or West was closed yesterday. It looks better today on the road closure map. going to be a long recovery like Katrina was. We only got a couple inches up here although at one point they were predicting 12". I didn't see a lot of wind damage mostly flooding. We were stationed about 10 miles from the plant that exploded. I think most of the wind damage was along the coast.

Send some of that sunshine. 6 inches overnight with some deluges; slow, cold, steady rain all day and at about 2 inches since I emptied the rain gauge this morning.
The remains of Harvey got here today, wet and breezy but nothing like the Gulf area. The fuel price increase traveled faster and got here a few days ago.

same here with the rain and a 35cent increase on gas yesterday >:( but our fuel price never went up explain that one to me
Hurricane Irma will cause some/much distraction from the devastation that Harvey caused. There can be very little services restoration done until the water recedes so the evacuees from the Houston area are still in a "world of hurt". Most churches and other organizations are stepping up and providing assistance but this recovery will be a very slow process.
South Carolina is now in a State of Emergency.
Because of Harvey? Keep you eye on the ball, Irmas the big dog now.
