I made my first pile of sawdust! 8)
Broke a blade!  :(
Replaced the blade then the the blade brake broke.  :-[
It's a used mill and I knew I should have gone through it first and replaced worn parts but I couldn't resist the urge to make sawdust. Now that I've made some sawdust, I'm going to do what I knew I should have to start out with and give the mill a good going over. I'll post pictures later.

That brake replacement should be a simple and inexpensive job!

I replaced the fabric brake on my FIL's 92 LT40G18 manual mill about 6-7 years ago.

Glad to hear you've gotten your sawdust fix.  8)

After you replace the brake strap, be sure to lower your mill engine not drop it. I had a student once drop my mill engine by just pushing the clutch lever up and dropping the engine. He didn't understand that you need to lower the engine.

Adjusting the brake strap to be the right length with the turn buckle and throttle cable can be a challenge.
Do a search here and you should find the step by step method of doing it. Or read your manual.

Good luck. Jim Rogers
Whatever you do, have fun doing it!

Congrats on the sawmill and making sawdust.  Yes, going through all of the sawmill adjustments is good for both you and the sawmill.   ;D

My friend with the LT40E15 had an employee that would just smack the clutch lever with the flat of his hand. That brake band didn't last very long. ::) He didn't last very long on the mill either.

Thanks guys. I think that strap broke just because it was time  for it to break. I could see all 3 layers of yellow rubber and 4 layers of fabric all worn through. I also noticed while I was in there that the drive belt is going to need to be replaced soon.
