That video came from Pat Conways 8mm home movies from Inglewood on Vancouver Island in the Late 50's.He was their Highrigger. The system used is a tension skidder. It is the same system used today with a dropline carriage on the grapple yarders, only the one in the video is riding on a fixed skyline.

I never picked the music ;D

Too cool 8)

Did any of you catch the piece on Discovery last night showing logging done with Chinook helicopters?  Too bad those copters cost so much, it would sure make logging on the slopes a whole lot easier.

Bro. Noble

On the topic of music,  Has anyone heard the song "Workin at the Sawmill".  It was used as background music on a sawmill video I got from the Univ. of Mo. a few years ago.  I'v heard it one time on an oldtime country music radio station since then.  I'd like to have a copy of it or at least know who recorded it and when.

DanG it!  "Working in a coal mine" keeps running through my mind now.  I'll bet I'll have to listen to it all day now. :-/

Jeff

Well I can't work no more at the sawmill
Talk about a poor boy, talk about a poor boy
Let me have a dollar bill

Yes my work was so hard at the sawmill
Talk about a poor boy, talk about a poor boy
Let me have a dollar bill

See my teardrops falling down
My wife left this sawmill town
She said sawmill life had been a sin
The gravy were too thin

I can't work no more at the sawmill
Talk about a poor boy, talk about a poor boy
Let me have a dollar bill

Well if you take your wife to the sawmill
How you gonna keep her, how you gonna keep her
When she wants a dollar bill

She rode away and leave you at the sawmill
Woman like a dollar, women like a dollar
Yes and women always will

See my teardrops falling down
My wife left this sawmill town
She said sawmill life had been a sin
The gravy were too thin

I can't work no more at the sawmill
Talk about a poor boy, talk about a poor boy
Never have a dollar bill

Women like a dollar, women like a dollar
Yes and women always will

Come on now guys.  Thats just proof you haven't been wearing your hearing protection at the mill.  The medical term is tinnitus commonly called "ringing in the ears".  That's definitely not music to my ears.
The Woodsman

Tom

Nah Man!  This ain't Tinnitus.  This is a full fledged, foot stomping string band. :D
