Did you know that at the pigroast every year, we usually have some pretty incredible door prizes?  Yea, I'm trying to give you an excuse if you need one to come. :)   Maybe some of the people that have come to the pigroast in the past can weigh in on this.  I can tell you, that many people have actually had the trip to the pigroast partly subsidized by what they took home with them. Our sponsors and members have always been very generous to the Forestry Forum membership over the years.  I can't promise what is in store for this year, but if you come, you'll find out and it may very well be worth the trip. :)

I would be there if I could afford it. Things should improve when the saguaros start to sell.  :-\
Manage 80 acre tree farm in central Missouri and Mesquite timber and about a gozillion saguaros in Arizona.

I really wish I could attend, but it would be over $300 in gas plus tolls, hotel and such. Just can't afford that right now.

Anybody in the mid atlantic area care to share the ride and gas money?  ::)

I think I mentioned it before, but last year, (our first) I had to bring Vicki practically kicking and screaming to the event. She helps me (reclunctently) around the mill and had no interest in a party that was about wood.

I had to bribe her with;
A camping trip, (something she loves and we don't do enough of).
A casino trip, (something else she loves, but if I go once year, I've had my fill).
An afternoon at the Harrison Flea Market, (something I enjoy, but wouldn't let on).
And probably a weeks worth of household chores for good measure.

I guess she figured out the 'party' was more than about wood. This year, she booked our campground reservations on her own in February, the earliest they can be made and it took no bribes.  ;D

She enjoyed the Pig Roast as much as I did.

the bands I won last year were worth over $200. Nobody left without at least one prize. Even special prizes for the kids.
The party was better than most family gettogethers.

Every year Linnea and I have been to the pigroast we left with valuable booty, from hand saws to blades for the mill.  But to be honest, the best thing about the pig roast is meeting forumites in the flesh and trading stories  8) 8)

If you can possibly make it, do.  Jeff and Tammy put on a great roast and they are such wonderful people your life will be enriched by the experience!

Jeff handed me a new chainsaw at my first roast, pretty much equalled the 1200 mile (one way) trip. ;D But I like the folks that come to the roast and listen to all the stories. Plus I hang out a bit at Jeff's stomp'n grounds to explore the UP. Jeff and Tammy are indeed good folks as are others of his family I have met. ;)

The block of wood is not a prerequisite to attend the piggy roast, that being said, you can still send a block in.  :)

Every year when it rolls around I think I should load up and drive up, really not that far from me. But seems like I am always logging somewhere and the only thing I know is work and I just don't let myself  take a brake when I am into a job.

The Pig Roast will be this year's vacation for us.  While we are in that part of the country we plan to go to Niagara Falls for my first time.  Probably need some advice from you all on whether to cut across Canada to Niagra or stay in the US.  Then we will make our way down to Virginia to Ashburn and Bristol to visit friends and visit the Salvage Dogs in Roanoke and then to Dollywood.   Looking forward to meeting everyone at the Pig Roast.

Sixacresand, its a shorter route from Michigan through Ontario to Niagara. Crossing at Port Huron would be my choice. You will need a passport and if you bring a pet, you'll want to check the rules.
