Stalls out when chain brake is applied looking for a fix I think it's the clutch but not sure

sawguy21

Welcome to the forum! Either the sprocket bearing is seized or the clutch has come apart. Pop the clip off and remove the drum.

boboyee58

already tried new bearing and new clutch springs

ZeroJunk

Did you clean or replace the drum ?

If the chain isn't turning at idle I don't see why the brake would do anything.

It shouldn't be.

boboyee58

Did not replace drum and chain is moving at idle

Hilltop366

Does the clutch drum turn freely by hand with the saw shut off and cover removed.

BradMarks

"Chain moving at idle" indicates a very loose chain, or too high idle rev, or both. I have an old 026 that if the throttle gets goosed with brake on it will sputter out, as if flooding the carb.

Clutch cover turns freely by hand with a little squeal

boboyee58

Remove clutch cover cleaned everything thoroughly reassemble and all is good.
Thanks for all the input

My neighbor brought his 250 over with the same problem. The clutch was filled with debris. We cleaned it out and she works fine now.

About every 2nd sharpening I flip my bar. While I have it apart I blow everything including the bar channel out with air. Makes me and my saws happy.
