   Had a guy bring me a dogwood log to saw the other day. about 13 -15 in dia. ,44in long. Just too short to hit the bunks. I can put it on a coupla 2xs to span the bunks,no problem,but should I square it up,or just saw through and through then restack ? He doesn't have a specific use planned for it,just didn't want it to be trashed.

In my experience dogwood ends up in small projects like jewelry boxes, inlay, or intarsia.  4 to 6/4 and it will probably end up being re-sawn.  I've never had a dogwood log that large in diameter...most are short and maybe just 8" in diameter, so I just saw them up on the shop bandsaw.
