My father-in-law has a 92 Dodge Cummins diesel truck that basically has fallen apart.  The engine though is still strong after about 300,000 miles.  Has anyone ever attempted to use the Cummins engine for a diesel genset?  If so, what governor/control system did you use on it to keep the RPMs steady?

That would be an interesting project with a 4 pole 1800 rpm generator. I am unsure how a governor system would be hooked up and controlled.

They are many places making them including Cummins themselves.   I used a lot from a company called "GENTEK" down south, LA or GA? cant remember now after a few years...   Good guys to work with.

There should governors available for that engine, as it is also used in fixed rpm equipment applications.

it has a variable speed gov. lets say you use a cable or what ever and set rpm at 1500 it will try its best to mantain 1500 rpm under load. if the load is to big you may loose some rpm
