i remember when dad had his mill (many moons ago) he had a friend who would come in and buy the cull lumber to make furnature out of all he wanted was a small piece out of a long board he made stools and small work benches  i think the longest piece he used was about 2 foot
dad thot it was a good way to get rid of reject lumber

The neighbor down the road comes down and takes a few slabs each summer to make benches for around his bonfire pit.  They last a season or two then he throws them on the fire and starts over.

dad said this was one time he didn't mind someone going thru the pile picking and choosing he even re-stacked it :o

We take low grade cedar lumber and manufacture a small triangle for a company to use in their bird houses and bird feeders.  It is a godsend to us to be able to use large amounts of low grade lumber.

Have any of you went to small manufactures and asked if there was a part that you could make for them?  Some companies have items they just hate to make and would love to outsource them.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.
