Since bad weather is on the way I took the afternoon off and came home to get that crotch log slabbed.  Below is a picture of the first slab off.  I got it all cut up.  Only two pieces will probably hold together as the inclusion got pretty bad towards the middle.  Several of the halves that did separate looked very nice.  I found that it is a very slow process.  One cut would take anywhere from ten to fifteen minutes.  on the next to the last cut I saw something shinny through the sawdust on top of the log.  Looks like I cut right through the middle of two coper coated slugs.

it takes that long per cut?  how often are you sharpening the chain?

I'm sure it will go faster than that, i can do a 36" cut in red oak 8' long in about 10 minutes with my 066.

nice though, metal wrecks havok on a saw chain

lots of dull bands and chains

There's a fine line between turning firewood into beautiful things and beautiful things into firewood.

Troy,
when you post pics, please take care that you don't paste consecutive links on one line.Instead, hit enter a couple of times before pasting the next link.

The example above put the pictures side by side which stretched the page out.

The example below is the corrected version.
