I was stretched out earlier today trying to pick up a box of 6" diameter sand paper (not very heavy), but I could barely reach where it was at.  I had my hand stretched out trying to span the box when my grip went weak in my fingers.

Now I can't pick up a chunk of firewood without a bit of pain in my hand problem seem isolated to my fingers.

Hopefully it will feel better tomorrow.

Any of you fellas had similar problems?

Carpal tunnel problems?

Your fingers are operated by the muscles up in your forearm, and tendons run down though your wrist to make the fingers work. If that gets inflamed or swollen the tendons get "clamped". The nerves for your fingers also run through the same area, and can be affected (pain or numbness).

yeah, I figure it only gets worse from here, I at least try to keep a good humor.

I think I aggravated the tendons.

I hear ya Dan, I've lost so much strength in the grip over the last few years it's just depressing, but yes keeping a good humor helps, just not with the lifting ;D   I know I have Sir Author making his presence known.  Aleve is to achieve in my case,

My BIL and I were discussing losing grip strength the other day. He's spent most of his life framing. He was complaining that he used to grab 2-4'x8'x1/2" sheets of plywood at a time at the top edge and carry them.  Now he has to get one hand under them to carry them, but to be fair... he's 62.

Dan, your issue sounds like you stressed something. Maybe in a few days you'll be back to normal.

I can not snap my finger on my right hand anymore.  The left is OK, but no right hand finger snapping.  I'm convinced that it is caused by Birthdays.

I started this week using a couple of those "stress relief balls" to work the muscles in my hands and fingers.  Not so much for strength, (but that would be good too) but to try and improve blood circulation in my fingers.   I've been dealing with issues with that for several months now.  Discussed here - https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php/topic,81388.msg1239330.html#msg1239330    I can sit at my desk at work or even driving  do it one hand at a time.

I used this when I was racing ATV's.  It helps a ton, I should still be using it but I don't.  My hands go numb when I sleep and I constantly drop stuff, very annoying.

thechknhwk -  very likely you have carpal tunnel.  those are classic symptoms.

Dan-  Any numbness in any fingers?

I'm jumping on this bandwagon myself.

I've been losing strength in my right hand for awhile now. Pain in the ball joint of my thumb and wrist that extends up the inside of my arm. 1st and 2nd fingers go numb. Hurts like a ..... I also lose control from time to time while picking something up or turning my wrist. Went to set a cup of coffee down this morning and dropped it.

Left hand is starting the same thing I suspect as it started hurting when I pull in the clutch on bike.

Dr said not carpel tunnel and gave me one of the most painful shots I've ever had in the wrist. Didn't help.

Bill-

Still might be carpal tunnel, plus some other stuff. That would include CMC arthritis (carpal-metacapal arthritis at the base of the thumb.)  If you have nor seen one, visit a hand specialist, not a GP or a general orthopedist.  Oh, don't forget that hand issues can be a manifestation of cervical (neck) nerve root irritation.  So you may need your neck checked out as well.

BTW, I think I would prescribe shoveling snow.  Would have made it much better. ;D

I think I aggravated the tendons in my middle and ring fingers.  my hand feels a bit better today.

the shoveling of snow has not helped here ;D  but the moving about does,  I figure just keep moving is the best answer for me,
