Good evening all. I'm new to the group. I'm looking for A big saw 30-32" but not for every day use. I have found a Husqvarna 395Xp for sale/32" bar, but I don't know too much about them. Anyone care to share any experiences?

Pine Ridge

Welcome warkdc. We have a 395xp at the road dept, it has a 24" bar. It has alot of power and torque , starts and runs good. They are a big saw, to me anyway. This one seems balanced well with the 24" bar, and handles well for a big saw. I would probably have one for the bigger timber if i was younger. Should pull a 32" bar just fine, big wood is where ours is used and does a good job. I do wish it had a side chain tensioner though.

The 395xp is a design almost a quarter of a century old. Still a great design though as I have a 395XP -32" and I like it for lowering stumps for my stump grinder.
I would probably get more use out of a smaller 390XP or Stihl 661 CM.

I don't need a big saw everyday, but there are times when my 24 just doesn't cut it. So I am looking to add a decent larger saw. I'm looking at one that's priced in the $850 range. I think it seems a little high. What seems to be the going rate for a saw like that?

HolmenTree

A new 395 will run you over $1000 , used you're heading into no man's land .

What saw are you currently running the 24" bar on? Starting there will make deciding what to step up to a little easier and more focused.

I have a 390xp with a 32 inch bar and think its a great saw. It does have the side tensioner. It gets heavy when u haul it around for any time. First thing to ask is do you really need it? I use mine for CSM and for cutting larger stumps.

I bought my ported 390 for $850 PHO. It is close to new used very little. And then I bought a 2188 that is in even better shape with two 24 inch bars, a Woodland Pro and a Tsumura for $850. I sure don't need both.
That might give you an idea about prices.

2188 will pull big loops....I use one as a back-up for milling big timber(2095Turbo is my primary).  Tried using a Husky once, but it couldn't hang......

I purchased my 395 with a 36" bar new from the dealer in 2012 for $1,195.95 plus tax.  I used is for milling on both a 36" Granberg and a Logosol M8 until I moved up to my band mill.  I still use the saw for cutting with either the 36" bar or a smaller 24".  Not a saw that you want to lug around the woods but a great saw that rips through the wood when you don't have time for the smaller saws.  Runs great, but remember to use the decompression valve to start otherwise it does like to be a little tough and stubborn.

So a quedtion for those in the "know" on the newer Husqvarna AB umbrella offerings; aside from asthetics, is there a difference between the 2188 and 395XP?

I think the comparable Jonsered is the 2095.

Yes lots of differences, the 390xp is the sister to the 2188.
I don't think the 395 ever had a twin. 394xp was the predecessor. Jonsered 2094/2095 are completely different saws.

Have one of them 2095, but it wouldn't be fair to match it against a 395(anything)....Randy(MM) ported her, and she's too mean for 'orange paint'!  BWAHAHAHA
