Kevin_H.

I apologize if some one else has touched on this, I try to look over the threads before posting, anyway

I got my woodmizer resharps back today and I noticed that woodmizer is no longer using UPS for their ARS labels, They are switching to FedEx Ground.

Right off the get go I was thinking bummer, With all that my wife and I ship and receive the UPS guy is here a couple times a week, Normally all I have to do is put a ARS label on it and sit it out front, Within a couple of days it was gone.

Now WM say's it's trying to save us money on shipping, So good for them. Well I went to the FedEx web site and looked for a place in town to drop off my blades. ( Hang on, this gets better)

The closet place to drop off is about 45 min away...and it is a self service, I dont think I can fit that big box into one of their drop boxes...

Driving 90 min round trip isn't going to save me much money.
From what I have read so far I have to be a business to call and sced a pick up...

Looks like I will have to start taking my boxes to the local ups shipper and go through the whole Weight and Pay thing.

Bummer!

Kevin_H, what you put in your note is what you need to politely relate to the people at Woodmizer. Sometimes decisions like that are made in good faith but the people in the plant don't understand all of the ramifications to the customer. If the customer would give them feed back with the problems they caused, they just might make a change.

We have tried to use FEDEX ground with our business shipping but have found that they do not have the coverage that UPS does. Even thou we ship quite a bit every day they would only come out every other day, their ground and air deliveries are two different companies essentially. On the other hand UPS is constantly trying to find new ways to get money out of you, for example if you have anything on the ship to address wrong like suite 501 instead of 502 they bang you five dollars. There are numerous other things that I won't get into but a lot of companies a getting feed up with them and trying FEDEX. I agree with Charlie that the best thing to do is let WM know that UPS is still the best way to return things and let them ship out FEDEX ground.

We have had one really bad experience with Wood-Mizer using DHL to ship a part overnight express.  The problem is not with DHL out of Wood-Mizer but our DHL service is out of St. Louis - 1/3 way back to Indy!  UPS has a major distribution depot in our area and service is quick and sure.  We get a few things by FedEx but often they have to call to find us and it's never as fast as UPS.

I have asked Wood-Mizer to note on our shipping address to give preference to UPS.  In any transaction,  I ask that they ship by UPS.  So far, this has worked.

Normally, as a Wood-Mizer employee, I stay out of forums.  But this warranted an "official" response, I suppose.

Yes, we have switched to FedEx Ground for the ARS labels.

Here's the rationale:  UPS was increasing their rate and FedEx turned out to be significantly less expensive. (I don't know about the attractiveness of FedEx drivers and don't think that played into the decision... ;D)

Now, regarding the vital question of convenience.  First off, UPS would not come to you exclusively to pick up the package -- if you were at a drop off location or a driver happened to come by, you could simply hand your blades over.  It is our understanding that FedEx will, however, pick up the boxes.  All you have to do is call 1-888-777-6040 and request a commercial ground pickup.  FedEx should be there the next day to get your blades.

If this is not working as we have been promised it would, please make sure to let us know.  Everything we do is for the benefit of our customers and we'll be sure to quickly correct anything that's out of whack.

By the way, if you're using a non-Wood-Mizer band mill, you can still use our ReSharp services and get great Wood-Mizer blades. (http://www.woodmizer.com/blades/resharp.html)

Thanks Sven for the quick and "official" response.  We'll give these guys a try.

We'll have some blades to send in for re-sharp within the next week or so.  I'm not sure if we've got the new labels yet.  I guess the old UPS labels and service will work until the next exchange. Or should I ask Will Baugh to send me some new FedEx labels?

I hear now you can order new blades on the Wood-Mizer web site.  This will be convenient as we always run out of blades on the weekend or evening.

The old labels will still be good.

And feel free to check out the online blade ordering. We're giving away grease guns to anyone that places an order online.

I went to order blades on-line from WM, where you enter your credit card info is not a secure site.

What burns my butt is - we just bought 30 new Double-Hard blades about two weeks ago.  Could have got a free grease gun by ordering on-line.

 Sven;
Do you happen to know if Resharp is available in Canada yet?

If I take my bands across the ditch into Michigan to ship would you suggest I send them via FedEx?

biziedizie

Out here they do offer the re-sharp and it's kinda funny how they do it! From what I was told I would have to ship my blades to Salmon Arm and then they would ship them to the states and by the time they got back to me it would be cheaper to buy new ones!
Me thinks that WM should rethink their program.

Kevin_H.

Sven,
I did see the new 800 # on the back of the return tag for a commercial pick up, and you can also sched. a pick up on the web, Now I have done neither yet, but if I read the rules correctly you must be on your town's business register?? to be considered a business and thus be eligible for comm. pick up.

I may be just jumping to conclusions, and I am sure it will all work out.

When I am done typing this I am going to try to call David Downey, I think he is the manager for resharp services, and ask him a few questions.

Would it have hurt for WM to give us the option?

Kevin,

We're looking into all the details of this arrangement with FedEx.  I'd like to know if someone has tried the FedEx service and what the response is.

As far as Canada is concerned, we're not offering ReSharp there yet.  The equipment we use to sharpen your blades is essentially the same we use to make them in the first place.  It's expensive machinery, but it does an amazingly fine job.  So, this equipment hasn't yet made it to Canada  :-[.  We're working on a solution to that, though.

Kevin_H.

Sven,
Sounds like you are on top of it... I just tried to call David, but we was out of town till tomorrow.

Thanks for the attn.
I'm off to haul free logs if I can get them out of the mud
Have a great day.

I was just out to the WM website and was playing with their blade selector program.  At the point of selecting blades, it popped up a window with all this stuff about a security certificate.

So.... Does that mean it's a "secure site"??  ???

I don't do purchases over the internet.  For that matter,  I don't like to use credit cards.  So maybe one of you guys that know more about this can tell me.

They do not have a valid security certificate yet, looks like they are trying to get it installed and having some problems. As such it is not a secure site. Check back tomorrow and maybe they'll have it ironed out.

Does somebody besides me still take cash?

Hey Tom,
