Well, I'm tickled. I found a used set of blade wings for my ED150. It took a bit of work to get them to fit, and no matter what I did, the last set of holes was off about 1/16". Simple solution, out came the Bridge Reamer and now it's all good.

I know own an excavator with a fully functioning 6 way blade. I can drive it since I installed a pattern changer and now have either CAT or JD control patterns available. First time I've owned an excavator with mirrors and AC. So far it's proven to be a really useful tool.

Now that I have a big enough machine, It's time to build a stump splitter for it. Since it was a holiday weekend, and customers weren't around to bug me, I whipped out some parts from T1 plate that were bump formed in the press.

Tacked up it now looks like this...

Kneeling on the floor proved to be a bit much, so I slapped it on a pallet. The forklift will bring it up to a comfy welding height to finish it up. I need to go grab some 65mm pin stock and a chunk of 4140PH in the morning to help finish it up.

And it all fits together nice and snug. Good job. We going to see it on the new tool? ;D Action video?

I picked up a remnant 65mm induction hardened bar for the pins, and a 4" x 5" x 22" remnant of 4140 prehard for the cutting bit this morning. I've already got several feet of 4 1/2" 4140 PH for the bushings, then it will go together. I've got a monster maple stump that will give this thing a good test, as well as about 30 fir stumps from 28" to 52" in diameter that need to come out. I gave up with the stump grinder after a half dozen. I'll be sure to get a video for you.

That looks like a good machine.  As to plumbing a grapple, i used to have a 50 ton Koehring with a clamshell bucket to clean irrigation ditches.  The rotator and pinch controls we're toggle switches on top of the joysticks.  The valves were on the main machine, and hoses ran out the boom.  It was a pretty good system.

Well, I finally found time to finish up my stump splitter/saw. Interesting tool. Considering I took a picture of a similar one and redrew it in a CAD system it fits perfectly. The pivot point lines up flawlessly so that if you set the tooth on a stump and curl the bucket, it neatly slices a slot about an inch wide  by 10 inches deep. On a small stump less than 24" or so you curl the wedge into the slot, and the stump splits, making it simple to grab with the thumb and rip out.

On big stumps my 40,000 pound machine just doesn't have the power to split really big fir stumps, so I need to resort to the old proven technique of ripping out the lateral roots to help loosen it. This thing shines at this. Instead of digging a massive hole, you simply curl the saw and slice through the roots. Working around the stump down to about 6' usually does it, then you can split, or pop the sucker loose.

This was a massive clump consisting of 3 large maple trees, intertwined with 3 medium to large fir stumps. I figured dynamite would be required. I was able to split the smaller fir and maple stumps and rip them out. Then you can see where I sawed up the roots to separate them so I would have any hope of getting them out. A bit of effort and I had the mess out of the ground. Here's one of the wads... I can't lift it even curled in, as my boom cylinder goes over relief. So that's around 15,000 pounds of stump. It's a lot bigger than it looks. But, with the blade and this tool and the thumb, it was simple enough to drag over to the stump pile to rot.

Coolness! OF course now the problem is that I can rip out stumps that I can barely move... I need a bigger excavator...

It's bump formed in a press brake with a radiused upper die. Marked every 1 1/2" push to line tap closed, and repeat.

There's a similar contraption on YouTube. I think the channel is Northwest Sawyer.

That splitter came out great.

One thing to keep in mind, its not a bulldozer.  Dozers have gear driven drivetrain and steering clutches, not hydro drive motors and planetaries.

I know when looking at 75 sized machines which are common with blades many need or have had track drive motors replaced.  Used track motors are impossible to find because of the demand.

A heavy machine will push dirt good, but its hard on drives.

Bulldozers have had hydro drives for a coupl decades now. The Bladerunner machines have beefed up under carriages to accommodate the blade.
