Just bought my second 6401 this one was used cranked right up cut great but I noticed the dampening spring that attaches to the handle bar was out of alignment. seems the handle bar has moved forward. looks like saw was probably hung in a log and in process of getting it out pushed spring out of alignment by pulling up on handle. now I know this is a picky thing but it bugs me. Doesn't seem  to be broke handlebar just to far forward.Question is how do I move it back to get spring lined back up. Do I loosen up the other dampening springs and pull it back?Or should I just ignore it.

Welcome, gunscrew. Here is the IPL:

What part # seems out of alignment? Eg: 88,90,93 are spring units holding fuel tank/handle to crankcase.
If you could post a pic - would help.

probably the upper A/V spring is bent. 6401 did not come with the spring travel limiter IIRC. replace part number 038114152 and add a limiter to it. part number 038-310-070.

might consider ordering 010-114-039 instead of just the single A/V spring too.

yes its the spring that attaches to the cylinder and handle bar can't move handle bar back enough to get spring in proper position, don't want to force it . It has some movement but not enough to get things lined up right.

gunscrew

its the # 70 (spring) thats pushed forward out of alignment the handle won't come back far enough to screw it back to the handle. thanks for the replys

well had time to mess with it today took all the dampers out , handle bar off, and when everything is in place the     hole where the spring on the handle bar screws   to the cylinder lines up exactly center of the handlebar the is no way to get the spring installed. My other 6401 has enough room although tight to install the spring in front of the handle. what gives.

So, there is not enough room between handlebar and cyl for the spring to fit? Could the handlebar be bent out of shape? Could this handlebar be for a non-AV 6401?
