The older I get I wish my body could Re-Gen.

night(s)

I have two modes. Artsy Fartsy Mode and Code Mode. The two can't meet. Its kinda like crossing streams on ghost busters. My mind might explode. I am officially in code mode. Well in the second hour of watching the screen roll and doing other things I can do on the new server to ready it

there may be some slowdowns as I tar other directories, bbut they should not be to bad.  I'll need to stop the forum for a little bit soon to make a database back up for testing.

Restoring a datbase is a very slow process. Right now I am restoring the test database on the new server. its been running for some time and not very far.  a little over 1%  in a half hour

Database 'forums2' on 'localhost'.
File: forums2_2018_01_09_22_31.sql.gz
Charset: utf8
Up to now 55 of 112 tables were created.
Up to now 130.881 of 12.036.768 records were successfully added.
Now the table 'smf_log_boards' is restoring.

Been there done that. Glad its you :)

Thanks :)

I would be lost without this forum and all my new friends.

Jeff

Update.  Having troubles restoring a back up database on the new server. It ran all night and is still less than 5%.  I may have to do something you guys won't like.  I may have to empty the tables that show what you have read. The smf_board_log and smf_board_topcs together are almost 6,000,000 records.  It takes a lot of data to keep track of where you are in every topic and what you have read and haven't read.  I don't wnt to do it, and I am exploring other options, but be forewarned, it may have to come to that. And it will be twice. Once just to be able to create a backup here to use for testing, then one again when we do the final move.

I'm tired out already and it hasn't hardy began.

Seeings how I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about with gigs, rams, etc. ect. you have my complete respect and admiration for what you do for all of us.  Go take a nap, don't let the streams cross and don't make us call in doctorb to give you orders  :).  Although a few of us here may go through withdrawls and possibly a seizure or 2 it'll all work out in the end so do what you gotta do, thanks for everything!

btulloh

I can live with that.  Seems like a small price to pay for a big benefit.

THis attempt has been aborted. I'm having them change the operating sytem and related software versions on the new server. If it takes longer than today, I'll reopen the gallery and just have to back it up again for the next try, but I'd rather not if I can avoid it, as that takes two hours.

The endless issues when trying to update a server. Did your server provider not know what you had on the existing server. Seems that the dropped the ball on that one.

Why would you want to bash Girls Raised In The South!  Apparently you have spent very little time in the south, and permafrost has set in.   ;D
