Yes, that is basically true - I have had a long pause from that other site, as it is the one that my home computer suddenly refused to load!

:D Well, let me just put it this way .Some sites see fit use what are called "hacks " which basically is a little program used to shut people up for a spell .

I won't elaborate how they work or who uses them in the interest of keeping the peace but they do exist . ;)

Once upon a time long ago a certain moderator on a certain site in the middle of night bragged about them, obviously in an intoxicated stupor  .This was deleted by morning  but the cat was out of the bag .The rest is history as myself and several others figured it out from there . 8)

Now if you want to see if old Al is telling a tale just go to V-bullitins home site for forums and check it out for yourself .

Cut4fun

Al isnt kidding.  There is hacks they install over there that keeps you from opening their site, also another hack that slows your puter down and another hack that slows you down on posting to a thread. All from the people who own the site and making money off you. Imagine that  ;).

It's his form of harassment to membership and sets around and laughs about it on the V-bull website bragging to others.

Al_Smith

:D Our hero done covered his tracks but it took him two years to do it .He was still there, deleted post or not .We know and he knows we know . ;)

Of course you can ,The tracking cookie is on the one you use the most, imbedded in the hard drive .

I had my "guru " of 'puters come over the feret it out but after warning a certain person in Colorado via another site if his site had jeprodized my 'puter in any way I would seek judgement ,the block disappeared . Isn't that amazing . 8)

SawTroll

Yes, that was odd!    ::)

I thought the Norton Internet Security took care of tracking cookies but I guess that some of them could be "smart" enough to slip through.......

No security stuff will catch it Niko. It appears as a regular cookie planted by the host website for storing user-name and passwords etc so you dont have to log on each time.

I found the one they had installed on my puter back in 08 (part of my reasons for leaving) to slow my puter down on their site like cold molasses when trying to post or respond to pm's, read thread, took coons ages before pages would load too.

Al_Smith

Well disregarding that one certain forum where those activities are just a form of harassment ,you can pick up stuff the site owner knows nothing about .

I got something twice from a site that got planted by a hacker .My "puter guru "could detect it but really didn't know what it was .As a result though I haven't visited that site for some time .

Once I even got a redirect from a site on bandsaw mills etc .The danged thing dumped me on a porn site .That was a shocker I'll tell you .

These hackers are slick because they code that stuff so it can even get past Microsoft and to do that they have to be extremely good .

HolmenTree

I couldn't get on to the net this morning first time in over a year. My Norton a few minutes ago found a cookie and removed it. No sign where it came from though. Now I'm up and running again.
I was up till 2am last night on 4 sites that  I'm a member of including this one. Yeah I'm worried one of these sites could be causing me some grief.
Would it be safer if I logged out of each site before shutting down the computer rather then just x-ing out?

My Norton has removed a lot of tracking cookies from that computer the last couple of years, but may of course not have found all.   ???

Al_Smith

I've got CA as a virus protecter. I had Norton but a lot of stuff slipped right by it .

All tracking cookies are not harmfull .In fact they help to you find certain things on the internet rather than have to a search for them everytime you want to access them .

It's all in how a praticular web site or forum if that be the case uses them .If in my opinion a certain operator of a web site being it forum or not uses those cookies to either track where you go on the net or in any way causes you problems ,it would be a good reason to avoid that area of the internet . That's just my personal opinion on that subject but anybody can do as they see fit .

SawTroll

Well, I just can't avoid that site, as the turn-around of info is greater than all other saw sites combined!

Sure there are some hostile people there, but I have a thick skin!   :)

Do you have any idea where in the world those cookies came from - I think I read Colorado somewhere on here, but can't find that post by now???

If so, it fits well with my suspicions, as to who is behind it!

Perhaps, it just depends on what specific info you are talking about I suppose .

Now exactly how that tracking cookie is generated I really can't say .It could possibley be generated by a third party and the info used by whatever entitity has access to that service .

Certain information gathering concerns such as "fast click" "double click "and perhaps several dozen others are where some of them come from I'm sure .

I'm about as ignorant as a mop handle reguarding this stuff but I do know they have to come from imbedded files .Case being  that I personally am on a broadband connection and the IP number never remains the same

Interestingly once that imbedded file is placed the powers to be can tell everytime you visit a practicular site weather you log in or not and exactly where you go in that site including PM's . That info was leaked by a certain smart alec moderator on one praticular site . Kind of interesting isn't it .

Oh if you do find a specific cookie it will have both the date it was installed and the date it expires, that much I do know .

Al_Smith

Here's another little interesting tid bit of info you might find nice to know .

We have two computers each with a firewall ,behind a router to boot .On one occasion my praticuler machine had a power supply which went on the blink so I used my wifes machine until  the new power supply got shipped by "New egg" ,about a week or so .

Well evidently some time during that week someone or thing installed a tracker on it . Several years later after I had a little problem resulting from a personality conflict thing I could still reach certain ares of the internet but evidently someone or thing got wise .Blocked me on my wifes machine after a few days which confirms the fact it is an imbed type of situation .

What's comical is due to the fact these facts have been aired so the whole world knows about them it's doubtfull you have any problems on your cottage puter . 8) They call it the information age ,works real well no matter what end of it you are on . ;)

SawTroll

Well, I informed my "computer guy" what you and cut4fun said - he thought if was interesting. We will see what comes out of it.....

Thanks for the info!   :)

The Forestry Forum uses cookies to identify you as you to the Forestry Forum when you are logged in. Thats the only way it knows how to keep you logged on when go from one page to the next and to return your personal information back to you like what threads you have read, and whats new that you have not read.

This cloak and Dagger stuff you guys are talking about intrigues me. How about someone sending me a personal note and let me know where this is going on? I've got a pretty good handle on how a lot of this stuff works, and I'd like to see if by looking at it, if I could help explain it.

You will have to log on to the VB website to learn it all. But here is just a little of it before 2008. Where the site owner was looking for hacks to put on it's site memebers and then laughing on the VB site about doing it to them. What a hole imo. But to each their own.

These are from the VB website, his username is ar@@@@@@$$$$ his real name shows there too.
