I got a few trees with this looser shaggyish bark and trying to figure out what it is, does anybody know? ??? Thanks in advance!

Thanks I thought it might have been from what I could see of the leaves too high up for me to really tell but I didn't know white oak bark got kinda peely like that. Thanks again.

In the same camp as Delaware.  Definitely white oak, Quercus alba.

at first thought a "Shagbark Hickory" but could be white oak.

What do you look at to see that it's a white oak?

The bark, white oak is held on by the side like a fish scale. Shagbark hickory the bottom peals up....at least around here.

Hickory has a single bud at the end of the twig.  The oaks have a cluster of buds at the end of the twig.

Good lesson for me...I would have bet the farm on shag bark hickory...and been homeless...
