What's a water logged chunk of wood that size weigh?  They've gotta be awful heavy.  Especially on dry land

Don't really know. If this one log were on our trailer, I wouldn't want another on there with it. We figure 16000 pound load on the trailer. We calculated a Heart Pine log of 18 inch diameter should equal 62 1/2 pounds per cu/ft. That Heart Pine is heavy, whether wet or not. This cypress should weigh about the same, but, when dry, will lose probably 30-35% of it's weight.
When they started logging Heart Cypress, they would "girdle" them, and then go back a year later to fell them. That would stop the growth and dry out the tree some. A LOT of them still sank because they are so dense.

We tried counting the growth rings in the big one and found there was about 50 years growth per inch of wood. That tree was probably 1000 years old when cut.

Hope we can find a couple like that in the water.

Actually, we were looking for flannel shirts today while talking to the govt. guy about using the ramp. The wind was howling down the reservoir and the temp was about 62. Don't sound bad, but, yesterday was 88 degrees.
You are welcome to come down anytime and show us how it's done. Might could learn a thing or three. :D
