I cut a large Siberian Elm in the front of my Mother's house this weekend (See my gallery - Trees).  While it was problematic to cut everything turned out ok as planned.  The wood seems very figured so I kept two large log limbs in the 16-18 inch range.  The stump was very short but was just under 36 inches wide.   I plan to cut it this week and then air-dry with heavy weights for a while but not sure when I should place it in the dry kiln and with what species would be a good match (red oak)?   I was very surprised how much water was in the logs and how much different it is from traditional Elm.  It actually split fairly easy.
