I have about 1000 BF of Pine in the Kiln.
The MC is ranging from 7-8%.
This is my first load of pine and I need to set the pitch.
What temp. does kiln need to reach to set the pitch ?
How long do I need to hold it at that temp.?

Thanks
Woodey

Typically 160F is recommended for at least 4 hours.
Peterson 10" WPF with 65' of track
Smith - Gallagher dedicated slabber
Tom's 3638D Baker band mill
and a mix of log handling heavy equipment.

Thanks scsmith42.
That is sorta what I was thinking.

If I only go to 150 degrees will that get the job done?

The hotter you go, the more pitch that is evaporated and the harder the remaining pitch will be when the lumber is cool.  Hold 150 F for 24 hours at least.  It takes time to evaporate.  Even at 160 F, it takes 12 or more hours.  But, the question is how much remaining pitch is a defect...hard to say.
