HAZARD ALERT:
LOG PEELER STRUCK BY PIVOTING LOG

A log peeler was preparing logs for peeling by bucking the of logs square. As he worked on one side of the log deck, a front end loader was travelling along the other side. One long log extended about 7 feet (2 metres) past the other logs into the traffic route. The front end loader hit the projecting end of the long log. The log pivoted, striking the log peeler in the back. The worker suffered injuries to his back and spine.

SAFE WORK PRACTICES:
1)Plan the work site so that there is adequate clearance between work areas and traffic routes.
2)Use brow logs to keep mobile equipment clear of the log deck.
3)Build log decks so that logs to be peeled are parallel to travel routes.
4)Post maximum speed signs for mobile equipment.
