The only mix-up here would be someone possibly ordering the wrong item, it won't be in it's use.

Sawyers here commonly use the term "blade lube" for our various formulas for what goes in the jug which cleans, lubes, and cools the bandsaw blade.

When sawing hemlock I rarely use any liquid at all.
Very little build up.
Then spray the blade with diesel before removing it from the mill if needed.
But as to what i am sawing NOTHING now as I have had a terrible time getting logs either Hemlock or /white pine.

The tree service has been busy taking down dead ash on this property.  Now I have to sort through this pile and separate what will be milled and what is too small and will be firewood-I will give those logs away.  I got a local guy on Craigslist who needed firewood logs.  He took two loads and will come for another two that are ready.  I'm sure he'll take more loads too as I separate them.  Last winter I cut 2x8's and they just came back from the mill as 5700 linear feet of T&G with a 7 inch face.  Beautiful.  This time I'll probably make 5/4 for flooring and whatever.  I think at least half of this pile will end up firewood.

I'm sure, they're keeping 2 crews busy for over a month I'm thinking. They stop when the ground gets too wet, which I'm glad so I can try to catch up somewhat. There were more log piles before this one.  I'll try to get the info on the T&G.  I was in charge of getting it sawn.  I'll get some pics too. It's being used for interior walls and stall walls in a very nice horse barn.

The easy way to mix the spindle cleaner is to simply guess and dump a bunch in the tank, basically over mix it.  Just dump a load in until it feels right.  You should see it immediately turn the water white as it mixes.  You'll know it's right when the blade stays bright and clean.  Then when my tank gets about half empty I'll just add more water, but no additional cleaner and start sawing again.  Usually it's still got more of enough in the residual mix to clean fine.  Then the next day, do it again, and at some point you'll see pitch starting to build up.  So add more juice and get back to sawing.  Some species requires very little, some species more, so this is how I can optimize for what I'm sawing, when I sawing.  It's not an exact recipe, it's just "hey, the band is getting buildup, need to dump a little more in" or "just top off the water jug, the band is still clean, keep sawing."

It's a trade off, the higher the concentration of cleaner the less actual water mix required to keep the band clean so the tank mix lasts longer and the sawdust falls off beter.  The lower the concentration, the higher the flow needed and the tank doesn't last as long and the sawdust will stick to the boards.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Kiln drying wood: When the cookies are burned, they're burned, and you can't fix them.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.

Lawg Dawg, I'm glad it worked for you, ain't nothing nicer than a clean band sawing well.  It just makes everything work better.

Haven't posted in a while, but I'm still here!  I cut a couple of 2+ inch slabs off this spalted red oak today.  Beautiful!

My three favorite documents: The Holy Bible, The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution of the United States.

@grweldon . What species oak is that? I've cut quite a bit of oak but none any where near that dark.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile

Larry

I've sawed three days using the spindle lube cleaner. Keeps the blade clean with no noticeable undesirable side effects. Lots of products can keep the blade clean, but all have a down side.

I've noticed three good things with the spindle cleaner that I wasn't expecting. In the past my sawdust chute sometimes clogs, especially with a heavy water flow. The chute has not clogged once using the cleaner. Today it looked as clean when I quit as when I started. The second thing is my track rail on the outfeed side sometimes gets packed sawdust on it. Not so with the cleaner. Shiny clean at the end of the day. The third thing is I use less water, about two thirds less.

So thank you yellowhammer for the idea, and Magicman for finding someplace for us living outside the cotton belt to buy the stuff at a reasonable price.

And today's lumber, quarter sawed white oak.

My guess is grweldon's spalted red oak may not be spalt, but the natural color of blackjack oak which is in the red oak family.  Send me that beautiful second board so I can tell for sure. ;D

I have seen that in laurel oak before, a bottomland species.  I believe that some of that color is caused by bacterial infection.

Danny,

How sound is the bacteria infected wood?

I had a first today - went to an event 60 miles away and took a bunch of benches and assorted wood products for sale. The sales indicate it was actually a bust financially unless it produces some future sales. One HVAC guy was excited about the wood banded Spruce Mantel I took as a sample and indicated he installs and has been looking for a source for mantels and would be calling in the future. We will see if that happens. I hear lots of people say the same thing - sometimes it pans out, sometimes not. At the end of the day I checked out and the event coordinator asked me about sawing some pines for them. I think they are young folks trying to nearly live off the grid and short on cash. She offered to swap me pork for sawing. They raise pigs. I told her I would actually consider but they are 60 miles away. I gave her the name of a contact about 15-20 miles away with better equipment and prices than me. I also told her he has 7 kids and might be interested or not but in any case he would not be offended at the offer. I told her if it did not pan out to call me back. Another old lady I later heard owns a big old historical building I passed in the way in fell in love with a set of primitive, mortise & tenon style, curved chestnut oak benches I have been trying to sell as a set thinking they are perfect to sit around a fire pit. She thought they would be a good fit around a tree she has. We will see if she calls back. Stranger things have happened.

These are the curved benches - overpriced for most customers in my area but somewhere there is a deep pockets customer even in my remote area.
