can someone identify this fruit/nut please? Found in southern alabama

Do you have a pic of the tree they came off of, it may help alot to identify it.

I see those come off oak trees, but I never knew what they were called.  Check and see if it's got a nut inside or if just puffy all the way through.  The one's I've seen like that are just puffy.  No nut or fruit.  Are there oaks where you found it?

Unfortunately I found them after all the trees were removed. But there were mainly just water Oaks so that's where I'm thinking it came from
