Shed Roof 30' Span
« on: April 04, 2018, 06:24:36 PM »
I plan to frame a shed that is 30' x 14'.   Any suggestions on on the best method to cover the 30' distance?    Looks like the mill can'k cut a max of 16-20'.

Is  scarf joint the best approach?

If I run posts every 10', is there a method to connect 10' sections at the post to span the 30'?

In mill construction the beams typically are joined on a bolster over the post.
Page 9 here shows some details;

Use a 6x6 post with a notch cut to let the beam sit on a ledge.  Each beam can sit with about 3 of bearing on the ledge.  Bolt thru each beam thru the rest of the post.
