I posted in the drying section a few days back on gun stocks. I tried yesterday to saw one but I feel like the slab has way too many defects for a gun stock.
I went ahead and still sawed it out at 12/4 which will make some slabs I can still market even though the length is 36in. I made a video on the short log, you can forward to the 6min mark of the video to see the sawing, what do you guys think by the pic/video? I see too many defects there but then again this was my first shot and trying to produce a blank.

My first thought after seeing the title was "Why is your gun on the mill?" Hitting a backstop is one thing, but your gun??   :D

it would make a nice book matched table top.  let it dry a year, then even up your straight grain edges, glue it up, and flatten it and you will have about a 6 sided table with the limb ends sticking out.  fill the voids with resin, lets say dyed black (japan lamp black) with actual turquoise rock in it.

Funny you mention that, I sale about 95% of all my slabs I run through my kiln. Seems this resin epoxy thing is very popular now. I have people call and ask for slabs with holes, they turn down the pristine ones,

here it is with the lamp black in the resin, which will go well with the walnut and the darkness around the defects.

Looks to me like you will have grain running through the pistol grip at a right angle to it's shortest dimension.  Not good unless it's a light caliber.  I think I would keep looking. it

Why would you need 12/4 for a gun stock?  Elephant gun?

Measure the width of a forearm, add some for surfacing, and a little more for the flitch to warp a little as it dries, and 12/4 is about what you need.  Make a high cheekpiece on a Monte Carlo style stock, and you may even need a little more.
