Hello all. I just bought a 038av super. Should I run 40 to1 mix in it? Also I was wondering if I could run a 24inch bar so it and what chain recommendations there are for the 24inch bar? Thanks
Jerry

Furl ratio: so long as you mix a quality oil/fuel at 40:1 or 50:1 I'm sure you'll be fine. Carb parts prefer non-ethanol fuel. 24" bar is max. Chain: stihl chain is best. Chisel tooth is faster.

My 70cc stihl gets 50:1 and i prefer the 20" bar for what i cut. A short chat about this with your local dealer is good advice too

Oh no the reincarnation of the great oil wars rears it's ugly head again    :-X

Did some one say oil? It can pull a 24 inch bar but if its buried in wood its all it can do.

What a super is like 68 cc more or less ? For a stocker 24" would be about the limit .I run a 20" on an 038 which is modified and up to 32" on an  038 Mag  which is more modified .On a stock mag which I also have 24" is about it .--It's not the size of the bar that counts,it's how you use it 8)

Thanks guys for the info. I have an 18 inch bar on it now. Just bought a new chain Oregon 72lgx chisel chain. Really love the way this saw cuts.

038 AV at 61cc was introduced 1980.
38 Super at 67cc was introduced 1983
038 Magnum at 72cc was introduced 1985.
I bought a 038 Super piston/cylinder for my 038AV in person at Madsens in July 1984.
Then bought the Magnum the following year.
Germany reunited in Oct 1990 end of West Germany after iron curtain fell.
So your 038S could be from 1983 to 1990.

Thanks guys. I'm happy to report the saw is in God shape for being from somewhere in those years.
