From some logs we brought in a couple of years ago -a bench and table set today. Note the joinery in the top. Cheers  Rob

Great looking project. How did you attach the top to the legs, thank, bg

The top floats free on a pair of big plugs that fit inside the leg assembly, my design.

As usual with your projects very beautiful indeed. You really produce some quality pieces.

Stunning as usual.  Was this a commissioned piece or do you make to put up for sale?

No , this set is for customers who have been with us for a couple of years. Thanks for the compliments.Did you notice the joinery has no straight lines ?The top is made of three main slabs and six other smaller pieces of wood scarfed in to complete the shape the customer wanted. We started with slightly curved wood and ended up with a rectangular table per order.Pic below is of the remaining raw stock from the same log showing mother natures shape.

I am so very impressed with your work.

What finish did you use?

Jon, Flat sheen solvent base poly on the legs and bench with bar top epoxy on the slab top. One full day with two guys rubbing out the finish to a little brighter than satin. Rob

Yes but I thought I was just seeing things.

So I am thinking all of your glue joint and hand fitted planes and sanding?

Rob, very cool as always!

I did something similar a few years back with some spalted red oak.  We used a sabre saw to rough cut the edges of two boards at a time (following the sapwood), sanded the ridges out of one board and then finished off with a flush cut bit on the second board (using the first - sanded edge board as the guide).

Came out really cool.  Somewhere I have pix...

Your work is always inspiring to me; thanks for sharing.

Pretty much what we did also. Find your pics, I would love to see them. We lost a bid earlier this year to do a round casino logo 16 feet in diameter with "swimming " joinery. That would have been an interesting job to figure out !  Rob

Unfortunately this is the only finished pic that I have of the table top. The customer has a catering business so you can tell his focus was more on the food presentation than the table top!

We provided the lumber and the rough joinery; the customer did his own finish out.  He wanted rounded edges to showcase the board seams.

The lumber is spalted red oak character wood.
