Big Quarter Sawn White Oak

I picked up a large white oak log from a local tree service.  To give you an idea it is about seven and a half feet log and weighs about 6,000 pounds.


 
The first step was to saw the log in half with a chainsaw.  Not easy since my saw only got to the center of the log and I had to split it using wedges.

 
Then saw the half in half to make quarters.

  

 
Next I put each quarter on the mill and trimmed the bark side to be parallel with the pith laying on the bunks of my saw.  I turned the log to take off small slabs.


 


 


 
Finally I got to the good part; sawing boards.

I got about 500 board feet out of this log, most of it over 10 inches wide.

nice figure,, I mean the wood grain figure,,
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

Really very nice lumber. I know it was a lot of work, but the lumber is just amazing.

Great job splitting the pith with the chainsaw.
