Starting my 20 ft Tulip Poplar logs for 4 x 10 rafters.   This log yielded three rafters and some jacket boards.  As I expected the pith centered rafter is flat.  The two off center have about 1/2 inch curl away from the center.  They will be stacked with curl down then a big log set on top for weight.  26 more to go.

Quote from: doc henderson on April 05, 2024, 09:56:19 AMmany use Corell draw and develop the art in a gray scale and then send to the engraver that is essentially a printer.

Wow, Corel Draw?!?!?! You got a copy of Freehand somewhere's, too?
Sorry, you're talking graphic design and print applications! You're in my world now, sucker!  ffcool  ffcheesy

Corel draw is a vector based drawing program that can handle bitmaps (pictures), but is non-native and cannot manipulate pixels at all. You'd be better off using Photoshop (or Gimp) to edit and manipulate a photograph or image. Corel draw (and vector programs in general) are great for type and line work, but all of this discussion is limited to the output resolution of your imaging device (e.g. the laser's resolvable resolution).

Thanks guys.

I have an assortment of inserts, the one I planned to use is a 3/8-16. This is the assortment:

The shaft is steel and hollow. I'm guessing but I'd say there is only about 1/16" of meat to work with, but it may have some wiggle room length-wise, meaning I could cut it a bit shorter if needed, maybe only an inch or so.

I'm going to have to go through my supplies because first thing I thought of this morning was welding a bolt to the shaft and grinding it down to smooth. Not sure if that works.

This is what it looks like, the shaft does not fit inside the insert but I could sand it down a bit.

Glad to hear you have back up and running. Electrical is not my thing, and yet we need to know a part it running these mills.

Maybe consider having some card scraper projects... Doing the finishing touches on a stool or something with a finely tuned card scraper will appear that you are doing magic to a lot of people.

I feel like I've suggested it before but I say stool kits for parents/grandparents to build with kids would be a hit.

Also, somehow I missed your posted pictures of the racks in the trailer, that looks great!

Once the moving blankets are in there providing some padding will you be able to minimize some of the straps? I'd think just a strap or two across the whole lot might hold things well enough.

a few more pics to add.  Jake won the Custom Sawyer trivia contest at the project.  here he is in all his glory, holding down the bench, unable to make it rock despite all his superpowers.

And here is a member Howard or @WV Sawmiller putting on a brave face, after seeing a bench leg can be hand sawn and not wobble depending on the spot on the concrete...  and a touch up with a flapper wheel on a side angle grinder.

Presented with a challenge coin from our EMS to say thank you and honor his service in the military.
