I looked through the archives and did not find this so am posing the question here.
An .065 bar is often used with the high power saws and longer bars.  Some say the primary reason is for oil flow others say chain strength.
I am evaluating going to an .065 on a longer length bar but when I look at the bar it is no thicker than the .050 bar and thus the rails are quite noticeably much thinner.  Has anyone had an issue with long term wear using .065 gauge with the thinner rails on the bar or is that pretty much a non event?
Thanks

No over this side of the pond 050 gauge is almost extinct . Its 058 or 063, the biggest bar I have is 32" and 058 gauge and it works just fine.

Depends on where you're at what is popular .Around these parts it's 50 thou .Maybe in the tall timber in the PNW it's .063 .

I don't know why or if it really makes a difference .

.063 is pretty much gone here save for some guys with big Stihls. We sell mostly .050 for Stihl, Dolmar and the U.S. built saws, .058 for Husqvarna and Jonsereds.
