Guys:

I just made my first video about a Boss boring machine.

And I've posted it on YouTube, but here it is here:

Tell me what you think of it......

Thanks

I got this email from a former customer who bought a Boss boring machine and they wanted some instruction of how to use it.

I wrote this big long email which probably took an hour or more to write.

So, I used the email as a script for the video.

I intend to do part two showing how to bore a hole for a mortise. It will include some laying out of the mortise.

But I haven't finished editing it, yet.

Thanks for your comments.

Fascinating.
Only question that came up in my mind, was which chuck was for softwood and which for hardwood. The faster or the slower one.
I think I know, but it was left a bit up in the air in the video, (but bet I could figure it out if I watched it again.  ;D)

But quite well done.

I use the faster one with a 1-1/2" bit and the slower for the 2" bit.  There is a third aspect, the threads on the bit's feed screw, that allow further tweaking and more possibilities, not all bits are created equal.

I've just uploaded the next two videos.

One shows how to layout the sample mortise:

And one shows boring the mortise with the Boss boring machine:

You should consider selling timber framing videos, you're very good.

Thanks, Jim!

Nice videos.  That should be a helpful sales tool, as well.

Attaboy! Jim!

It's nice to put a "face with the name"....which reminds me, we'll have to start reading your posts with a NE accent!!  ;)

Nice job!

Well, you know to tell you the truth, I have really thought about doing just that.......

I use the faster one with a 1" bit for peg holes and the slower with the 2" bit for mortices.

Nice job on the videos Jim.

I use the fast one for peg holes as well.
Otherwise it's a low speed (high torque) gear and either coarse threads for soft woods or fine threads for hard.

Thanks for the tips about using the different speed chucks for different sizes. I had never heard that before, but it makes complete sense to me.....

Nice videos Jim.  I was impressed with the fancy editing too!  I think if you made a bunch of videos on DVD, there'd be some interest.  I know after my mill rule class I was trying to find a video on square rule and scribe rule with no luck.  There is a good video on sandpaper sharpening I have by Mike Dunbar (the guy who makes the windsor chairs), but I'm sure you could do your own too to include other methods like stroping etc.
I think for newbies in TF'ing, there is a lack of good video material.  Hey maybe after you do some video's, you could hook up with other related skills people and make more video's, like Thomas Massie - stone work, slate roof, solar power, geothermal, chimney/fireplace building, wood pellet heating (you know what I mean if you've read his blog)?

Anyone having any trouble with the sound on these videos?

I had someone say that they could barely hear me.....

The first video was soft. You had your face pointed away from the camera. The last two were okay. I had to turn my volume up to half, but I always keep mine low.

Yes, I noticed that I need to speak to the camera.... but again, it's not bad for a $49 radio shack special......
