I have a 1996 husky 365 that runs great. I bought the saw new in 1996. Something is causing all of the oil to leak out of the tank everytime i store it. I have had the oil pump replaced and i replaced the air vent on the side of the case. It still leaks the tank empty.

Any other ideas? I have checked the case and can not find any cracks.

Welcome. If ALL the oil leaks out and saw is sitting upright, you gotta think bottom of tank leak. You can't see bottom of oil tank because plastic handle/fuel tank covers it. The oil tank is actually the 2 metal case halves bolted together with a case gasket sandwiched in between. Could be that gasket has failed at the bottom.

Here is the 365 IPL to look at how parts go together.

I would assume that it is not cheap to split it in half and replace the gasket?

I'd bet not cheap at a dealer. But not definite that is the issue. You could remove handle and get a better look. And you could pour fuel mix in oil tank and be ready with paper towels keeping areas clean and try to localize leak.

Here is a video on Husky 350. It's a little different because it's a clamshell engine in a plastic chassis vs split mag case in 365 but many principles are the same.

I always lay my 365 on its side caps up, it helps. Frank C.

Don't know if yours is built the same but my 346XP started leaking like that about 6 months after I got it. There was a slow but steady drip coming from the oil pump area (green arrow)

I took the pump out and found that the oil pickup tube was not seated well into the hole in the oil tank. There is no real positive sealing. The tube has a fat spot and it just kind of sits there in the hole behind the pump. I smeared it with Gasoila pipe compound, reassembled with a firm push,  and it has not leaked except for the normal chain dribble for 3 years.

my saw has a brass tube that comes out of the oiler that delivers the oil to the bar. I just ordered a new oil hose that goes from the tank to the oiler and a new rubber seal where the copper pipe goes into the oiler. I will see if that helps.

Thanks for the help.

     Howdy,
If it's completely draining the tank, it has to be case gasket as mentioned previously. You could try checking the torque on the crankcase screws.

I just checked the case and the screw on the front of the case is stripped out. Can you drill and tap this spot for a bigger screw?

Grandedog

     Howdy,
Since it's draining the tank, I take it that it's the lower screw. That particular hole has a hollow hardened steel locator pin that the crankcase bolt goes through. Without disassembly, there's only one thing that might work for you. It will mean making a special fastener. With the current bolt out, use something like a wire to check the overall depth of the hole. You should find it to be about 6-8mm deeper than the length of your screw. If this is the case, you could try using a stud with red Loctite to grab the remaining threads. Of course the hole needs to be clean, and dry before installing the stud. You don't want to torque the stud into the case, just get it snug and let the Loctite do it's thing. Be liberal with the Loctite. It will help fill the void where the original threads were.

It is the top screw. According to the shop manual I have there is no pin in this hole.

If you can't see it leaking out the oil pump or tube assembly, you need to remove the fuel tank/handle and look at the bottom of the mag case.
Or put in enough oil to last your cutting session and put it on a towel when done.

     Howdy,
The top hole is not a blind hole. Either a longer bolt, or if it's totally stripped, an even longer bolt with a nut.
