in middle tn on ground that grows pretty good timber a white oak that measures 48in dbh what would be the size it might be in ten years time.

Many variables will affect that growth.

But maybe in the neighborhood of 1/16-1/8" diameter per year, so maybe an additional 1" in 10 yr.
So diameter increase of 2%.     Could be less, and could be more.

But that increase in diameter will be a big effect on the additional % volume of bdft in that 10 years.
The butt log, if 12', may add an additional 50 to 100 bdft. to the volume in 10 yrs.

Take a bore sample of the last ten years, measure it and then double it, should be close.
