Hello all. I have been a member a good while now, but haven't been to this category yet. I let my neighbor borrow my Stihl 460 a few months ago and he brought it back and said after cutting a good size pine down, he could not get it to crank. I brought it to the shop and today they said  that the cylinder was busted. $300.00 to repair it. If yall had it to do, would you get it repaired or put that 3 hundred towards a new one? Just looking for opinions. Thanks for any replies.

Stihl has moved to the MS 461 - ~ $1000. Yawzer! I'd get it repaired. Lotsa options on that saw - OEM vs aftermarket. Can go from 52mm bore to 54mm.

If the saw is in overall good condition I woulda go ahead and get it fixed. Or if you're confident in doing the job your self, you can tear it down and fix it yourself and possibly save close ta half the cost providing it's just the top end that needs replaced and you use reputable aftermarket parts.

amazon has good prices on their aftermarket parts for your saw

Definitely fix it.  Don't use aftermarket garbage; there is some decent AM, but most is not.  If it were mine, I'd fix it with OEM and be good to go!

Spending 300 to fix a real good saw is a much better investment than spending a $1000 on a new saw that is only a replica of what it once was. DO use OEM parts!
