I titled this thread so others could add to it if they get a chance. :)

Chet and I came across this beauty on a white pine driving around getting stuck in the wilds of da U.P.   Woulda loved to bring her homw along with the bigger white pines growing around it. :)

Looks bigger when You got an object next to it to give it scale. (I meant the DanG burl looks bigger Chet. >:( ;))

Walnut burl.

I've educated several of my buddies about burls.  Got a call from one of them about 6 months ago about a big oak burl he wanted to show me.  The tree was on a city parkway so I told him no way are you going to get that one.  He showed up couple of months ago with the log on a trailer.  Said the city cut the tree for him and loaded it. ;D

The highest concentration of burls I've seen were on cottonwood in General Sibley Park on the south side of Bismarck ND.  I should have taken pictures.  I'll bet there were 10 or more visible at one time in the tenting area.  Maybe Mark M would wander down there and snap a few pictures if we asked him nicely.  :)

Here is one I posted a long time ago on a thread called "a nose for trees"  The picture does not do it any justice. Its between the US127 and median U.S. 10 on ramp and not a real good place to get pictures.
