Need some feedback on Recon

A woman just offered me a TDS Recon with windows, pocket word, and survey pro for $350.  I've got no experience using such a machine and wondered just how much use I could get out of it at an affordable price.  I have seen them in my forestry source ads and the sales catalogs, but were always out of my price range.  So for all of those familiar with this machine, what can you tell me?  Interests I have in it include cruise data collection, mapping, etc.  What else will have to be purchased to perform those duties?  What additional tools are required for the survey pro software to be useful?  I have used trimble's survey grade gps systems years ago in school, and have used data collectors in the field using cruistalli software, but never used a recon.

also, how do you tell if its a 200 or 400?  She doesn't know which it is or how to tell.  Claims she bought it for her husband for a christmas present but he had already purchased one on his own.
