Can some one help me with the year of manufacture on a Husqvarna model 51 chainsaw? The nameplate says "Husqvarna 51   5060634".  I'm trying to figure out which of the five IPLs for the model 51 on the Husky US website I need to download for this saw (after wading through to page 36 of results searching on "chain saw" for IPLs and manuals... searching on "51" or "chain saw 51" got no results)

I know on the newer saws, the first two digits of the serial number are the year of manufacture. That doesn't seem to make sense here. Did they switch the code they use at some point

There was a thread here a while ago about how to break down the serial number on Huskys.  If you try doing a search here you should be able to find it.  It specified down to the week of the year the saw was manufactured I believe.

And that actually works on my newer saws. The first two digits of the serial number indicate the year the saw was made. This serial number is 5060634. There's no way this thing is a 1950 saw.

Did I remember the code wrong? I thought the first two digits were the year.

The system has changed several times.   ;)

I suppose it would be pretty hard foe that saw to have been made in 1950, unless it was way ahead of its time.

Yes, that sure is true!   :)

Niko, one question i have had about this numbering system is if this is the 634th of this model or the 634th saw regardless of model?

I have thought a lot on that, but I don't really know the answer. What I find most likely, is that it isn't either - but about the model "family".
