Firstly, I would like to thank the senior statesmen here who share their knowledge both here and on YouTube (and sometimes they are the same people).

A question.
I have the basics re tools, but there are some extras required for this hobby.
What are your suggestions?

To try and narrow the scope;
.My first project will be to do a top end rebuild on my old Husky 50 rancher (parts on order).
.I plan to concentrate on Huskys and Stihls. I hope a 372 clone will be my next purchase/project.
.(after that, it may be whatever turns up at garage sales and the like).

I suspect the list will include; A case splitter, Torx set for Stihls. a new impact wrench, maybe a bearing press, dremel?

You will want a 2-cycle tachometer. A must have for correct tuning!
Have fun.
I own my own small piece of the world on an 8 acre plot on the side of a mountain with walnut, hickory, ash and spruce.

AND since you said Husqvarna 372's, the X-torqs have this nasty habit of eating pto bearings...and when you pull them apart,  they leave the outer race stuck in the case....I use heat and the following to get them out:

5pcs Inner Blind Bearing Puller Set Internal Slide Hammer Tool Remover US Stock 681385610130 | eBay

Also saws like the 562 and 576 with stuffers, sometimes the bearing stays on the crank shaft..I use these to pull them off:

14pcs Bearing Separator Puller Set 2" and 3" Splitters Remover and Bearing Kit 614019645673 | eBay

I have an ancient 2 jaw puller that works on flywheels, but could grind one of these to work I guess.

Seal drivers, I have the OEM Husqvarna and Stihl drivers, but also have the following as a base line:
HFS(R) Bearing Race And Seal Driver Set - 10 Piece And Case | eBay

Stihl Chainsaw OEM Specialty tool MS660 seal installer 066 064 1108 893 2405 | eBay

VERY Usefull!
Husqvarna crankcase seal removal tool flywheel side 362 365 371 372 61 268 | eBay

But that is an over view....and for each saw you can look either to a dealer or on eBay for the seal drivers and things if you get that far into them. Sockets do work, and a cheap harbor freight press also can work, just the chances of putting bearings and cases together without issue is better with the right shop tools....it DOES add up! But you posted this as if you plan to do a few over time....get the right stuff and save a ton of aggravation!

That's my ten cents.

M. Thank you so much for unselfishly sharing your knowledge and experience.

I'll work up from the basics. I'm considering another bench for the garage optimised for chainsaw work - maybe a mini something similar to an engine stand that bolts where the bar would go and turns and swivels.

Re the 372, I will take on board the advice not to consider the out of the box clone 'ready to roll' and assess it first.

[Edit to add]

I've put your very useful lists into a word file.
We have different stores here - I checked out what SuperCheap Auto (auto parts and tools store) have and will have a look at Bunnings and Repco after Christmas - and see what I can get at walk in stores vs online. (And the local Saw dealers too).
(I forgot to add - many of those e-bay stores don't ship to Aus/NZ, and sometimes the shipping on those that do is more than the cost of the item - c'est la vie ).
