Hercules winch

What gear does everybody in with the Hercules winch? The high and low is in neutral so all you have is 1st and 2nd to winch in. 2nd seems high to me but maybe I'm not used to it yet.

2nd for the most part but if its a heavy twitch in a hard spot I'll use 1st every once in awhile

As Maine logger said.

Assuming this is a manual shift, handbook states 2nd usually, 3rd if the wood is light, and 4th only for empty line. Nothing wrong with a lower gear, just takes time.

I pull in 2nd but just seems really fast for the worm gear in the winch.

I think that its fine keep in mind the worm gear is always turning when the trans is in gear anyway unless you pull the PTO out of gear on the transfer case when driving

mostly 1st mine is pretty fast     2nd if I want to get hit with a stick from pops  :D
