Here is a simple add on- a rear site to help line up the blade cut line and the log.
The first photo shows a clamp on metal strap,(wrapped in blue tape) which is adjustable up and down on the support arm for the blade engagement lever. https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/25240/20141003_085922.jpg
Next photo shows lining up front end of log.

Could not quite get the photos to paste into this post but they are in my gallery. Bob

This should do it for the picture help.  :)

I like to go to whatever post or start a new topic first to include a picture.Go to your gallery,it will open in a new window.Click onto your album, then click onto whatever picture you want,it will get bigger, than scroll down a little to find,Insert Image In Post, click onto that, click Yes and that is it. Some have to copy/paste the link to work.I like to hit the enter key at least once or twice to move the picture down away from what I am typing. The enter key really helps to leave some white space if posting more than one picture. Somewheres I think it says to add 10,000 to your user number or something like that to make a clickable icon to your gallery under your user name. Use the preview button to see how it looks and modify it if needed

WM used to mount a short coil spring behind the band a little bit to be used as a sight. I don't know when they stopped, but my '08 doesn't have it, but the early '90's machines I've run did have it.

looks like a great idea, simple and functional, I always seem to have a problem eye balling that first cut
and having to make a second cut just to get it right.

Very useful and cheap idea. I wonder why WM stopped mounting such item on the mills.  I will most certainly make one for mine.  Thanks. smiley_beertoast
It's the going that counts not the distance!
