ID this deadfall please?

 Can anyone ID this tree?  It was lying on the floor.  I managed to find one leaf....potentially ash? The bark sort of looks like basswood but the rings seem too close together for basswood.  I don't recognize the heart wood.  Location is the north shore of Lake Ontario

Bark does look bass, cut looks like ash tho, you sure can tell which when you you drop a saw in it!

Yes firewood......Someone wants to cook with wood and they want specific types of hardwoods.

I feel real certain it is basswood, those odd shaped brown hearts are a dead giveaway. Dry some and it will be light and it is soft and absorbs a splitting maul.
