gday

my name is carl i live in qld australia. (gods own country)

i run a lucas mill 2000 model 8-25, 8" cut with a 25hp kohler motor. and have just built a bench for resawing my flitches.

Come from an old sawmilling family and have been around the family's mill or out with dad falling and sniging since i could walk. iv been operating my lucas for 3 years now.

i do mainly mobile contract cutting but am trying to get away from that and just cut for sale (wholesale floor stock etc or retail). its gettin incredibly hard to get log here now because of government rules and regulations.

About time you showed up Carl....

So anyone who read my recent thread https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php/topic,43062.0.html and was wondering about the sawdust comment... this is the joker who felt it was his sawyers duty to post me some of his Lucas sawdust so I didn't get too much withdrawal...

Aussie sense of humour hey, I go to the mail box and find an interesting looking package... I open it up and spill a heap of sawdust on myself??@?@? What the!!???!   CARL!!

Hey Carl, Meadows Miller has got a 10 - 30 as well, not many swingers over here, but the company is good nonetheless  8)

I run a Peterson swingmill, but welcome to the Forum anyway ;D Sigidi's right, there's always room for another swingmill operator around here, we're pretty outnumbered.

thanks for the welcome.

im just west of brisbane in brookfield.
getting to built up now.
to many greenies.

the old family sawmill was closed down by councill because people built around us and started complaining about the noise :-\.
we had a 99 year lease on a few thousand acres in the brisbane forest park we were cutting and it still had a lot on it.

we had paid for it so we then went to spliting fence posts and rails with chainsaws. not bad work but nothing like working the mill.

after a year or so of that the gov decided they were closing the leases and took it off us.

me and dad went fencing for a wile when i baught the lucas i can run it and it dosent matter about complaints cos its classed differently to a fixed sawmill. :D

only problem is there aint no logs. im surviving on mobile work and what few small logs i can get of tree loppers. mostly full of nails :'(

If they took the logs from me, I think the strain would be more that I could bear.

What would I cut?

Glad to have you Carl.  It seems like the "council" would make an exception for an established business.  Noise, Noise of a sawmill sounds like making money.  Then again, no logs, complicates the whole issue.  Welcome, we look forward to sharing with you. 8)

Welcome Weisy, good to have another Aussie here. Looks like swing-millers have almost got enough members to take over! ::)

obviously you obviously you havent tried to deal with australian governmet departments.

its stupid we had been sawing up here for near on 80 years. The people buy the land build a house and complain about the noise. we get shut down. that seams fair doesn't it.

as for logs its a matter of we cant cut a tree down cos some animal might be living in it. we cant even cut up dead logs on the ground 4 firewood incase a bug lives under it.

we are slowly building up a bit of a reputation again and may be able to get logs again shortly. found a few loop holes in the system.
