  tocking up for a siding job. will be cutting 250 ,1x8 x 10ft.


 
that one upfront is 24" x 14ft. bad news; 3ft  up is an imbedded dog chain,also seen where they cut thru 2 nails making their fellingnotches.

Since you are making 10' lumber cut the dog chain off and leave 10' above it.  ;) Nice looking logs.

Yup, it is much easier and safer to jump butt logs that are metal suspects, and certainly those that are known.  Butt logs are usually a pain even without metal.   ;D

You folks down south forget that up here in the great treeless Midwest, the butt log is quite often the only log.  ;) 
   Your logs are perfect Dave...maybe too perfect. Have you been photoshopping lately?  ;) :D

Be nice if we could all get the butt cuts sawed off about 6' off the ground ! That would take care of most trash and that aggregating flare on the end !
