What does it mean if a tree is Vigorous?

mesquite buckeye

Less vigorous growth on a fruit or nut tree rootstock results in a smaller tree. It can also affect fruitfulness.

This is how they produce dwarf fruit trees. You can also get semidwarf or substandard sized trees.
They (dwarfs and semidwarfs) are especially nice for people who want a fruit tree but don't have a lot of space.
Also makes the fruit easier to pick since it is lower.
