Another box

The boss suggested I had probably made plenty of ammo boxes and could switch to something more feminine just any time.







A bit harder to build than normal and I made a couple of mistakes.  She hasn't seen it yet...maybe I'll surprise her as I think we have a holiday coming up.  

I'll crank out a few more, than back to ammo boxes :D.

Looked more like black locust to me, but I've never seen any catalpa lumber.

Yes, it is catalpa.  I've been playing around with using it the last few months as I've never used it before.  Finish is SW pre-cat CAB acrylic lacquer in gloss sheen.  It imparts no color or tint to the wood so its pretty natural.  First time I've ever used the gloss, but I've used massive amounts of the duller sheens.

Absolutely beautiful and great craftsmanship.  Everything I make has mistakes in them. I just don't tell anyone and no one seems to notice them but me.    I like your design and especially the handle. Two thumbs up! 8)

That is one fine box. That is an understatement, but that is all I can think of. I have to ask. Is the opener glued on the box? Even the opener with the metal in it is super nice.

The aluminum between the walnut slices has a 1/2" long tab on it.  I filed teeth on the edges of the tab and glued it with epoxy into a mortise on the top.  In real life, it looks like the ellipse pull is floating on the top.
