Hey Matt,

Where ya cutting at?  I just put in an offer on a piece of land on ridge road it has 64 acres of planted pine on it. it has been thinned once and is ready to be cut now.  If you get that Bell saw and I get the land it would be a good job for you to learn on.  I had a super T a few years back and would be glad to show you a few things about them.

That is one thing I have never cut one stick of....pine.  We just dont have very many pine trees here, if there is one its standing in a yard and its a biggun.  I would love to lay some 100+ footers down

Tim with my eyesight just seeing the picture is a good thing!  :D

Patty had a sony camera that even with the manual I could never get the date not show in the pictures, of course it was the wrong date too.

We don't have any pine to speak of in our area TF, does it go to a chipper mill or do they saw boards out of it?

what is the lower limit on diameter on those pines? can they get more than 1 4x6 out of them? if they are only cutting 1 4x6 out of them about 1/2 must go to the chipper or slab pile anyway. just judging by the truckload i would guess most of those logs are 8'' to 12''. i have cut and sold a lot of oak logs that size from a little clearing project. i liked to starved to death. i could get  about 20 logs on my truck and the load paid $150 or less. i was the owner so i got all of the money and when gas got over $2 a gallon i couldnt make enough to justify it. could have cut firewood and made more $. i think the mill was paying $.18 for those little pallet logs at that time. i am sawing some of those myself now and the slab pile seems to grow a lot faster than the lumber pile.
oh and i would imagine you log a little like i do. if i cut the tree down and the thing makes another log in the top, i cut it. no sense in leaving it in the woods.
i dont get to saw much pine so i too am a little jealous of those logs. good work tf.

thanks paul, they will take them down to 8" im not sure what they do, i think they get some boards if they can ???. most people dont want pine anymore :( this is one of the only mills that will take pine. they are paying $180/1000 by weight. i get $250-300 a load, not too bad for pine these days :)

Quotethis is one of the only mills that will take pine

I think I read you were in Buckingham - don't know which mill you are hauling to but Yancey in Crozet will buy tree length or cut pine logs and has always paid a fair price.  Williams Bros. in Ruckersville (2 counties north, maybe too far?) will buy cut SYP 12" and up but no White Pine, and Campbell Woodyards in Piney River will take the 4"-22" pulp or chip pine (any species hardwood/softwood really).  Also, Cove Creek on 29N near Covesville will often buy the smaller pine for posts as well.  If you got into a big enough tract you could sell to Madison Wood Preservers too, although that's a good ways from Buckingham.  You might have already known about all them but just in case you were at a loss for a market for all the diff't. sizes of pine, those are the mills I have sold to over the last 20 years.  I don't know much about the mills to the south of you, I'm up here in Albemarle, although I know Solite Road well, I have done some work down at the quarry and in New Canton a few times.
