We are going to be slabbing a 4' diameter deodar cedar later this week into 4" slabs.  Unfortunately I have not been able to find any drying rates listed anywhere for this species.  I'm thinking something around 3% per day or in the solar kiln would be acceptable, but don't know for sure.

Den / Gene / Don:  Can y'all offer any advice?

Thanks.

The drying rates I developed were for hardwoods.  I have not seen safe rates for softwoods.  I do not even had a kiln schedule for that species.

I have air dried it in the desert up to 8/4 with minimal degrade.

Hi Scott,

I didn't have anything to offer but didn't expect you to have much trouble with softwood slabs. How have they worked out?

So far, so good, but we are only a few weeks into it.  A little bit of checking in the center slabs (pithwood), otherwise ok.
