I'm getting a stack of logs that were taken down for a power easement. They've been stacked for about a month. I'll get the bark off of them as soon as I get them here. I plan on using them whole in the building and am concerned about insects.

Is there a homebrew concoction I can treat them with in case there is any sign of insects...hopefully one that won't change the color. These are all pine.

Bark insects will not be a problem, wood borers will, and there is little to do to the logs before you cut them that will be effective and practical.  Heat is the best treatment.

Getting the bark off before spring is the key. The beetle larva can't survive with out the bark to protect them.

try this:

65% water.
20% Borax.
15% Boric acid.

Heat the above slightly to dissolve, this will give you the maximum solubility of borates in water.

Too many hobbies...not enough time.
