Title: Powder Coat
Post by: Tam-i-am on October 21, 2017, 04:49:52 PM
I had the opportunity to visit our powder coat vendor, RR LeDuc and see our products on the powder coat line.  They were having an Open House to celebrate 50 years of doing business.
I got a phone call on Friday that said the good news is your powder coating is done, the bad news is you can't pick it up until Monday as we are leaving it hanging for the open house because it shows the capabilities of our powder coat line.  So it was a great opportunity to take pictures.

Juniors just hung ready to begin their trip through the system.

Here is bunch of cant hooks that have gone through a wash and are coming out of the drier.

Here is a bunch of mill specials just about to enter the spray booth.

Here is looking at an ATV arch just sprayed with powder.  The bar on the left is a weight to keep the arch in position.  Mid-way on the left you can see the spray gun in the window.

Here is the view from the other side of the booth.  This is the drop tongue for the Buck arch.

Next the pieces go into an oven that heats the parts to 400ยบ to melt the powder coat.

It was exciting to see the pieces on the line in various stages.  Funny that the pieces at the end of the line were orange.

Interesting.
I worked at a place that made aluminum clipboards. At that time they did not paint them, but I remember the trolley system going through the vasts to be cleaned.

Off topic....but still a little on soooooo..... if you can help I would be appreciative. i Just bought a 2001 F450. It has a good bit of rust underneath. I have looked at a number of options and powder paint is one I am considering. Is this a cost effective solution? What would be a practical budget number for this? Any input would be appreciative!!!

My stepson was fixing an old jeep. He used something black and it was pricey. Went on with a brush. If it got on your skin, you could not get it off.

hopm  - a lot of your cost will be in the prep as it has to be rustfree and able to handle 400 degrees.  Then size of pieces as you have to find someone who can handle your work.  Sorry can't be of more help.
